The course provides a foundation in science with an emphasis on how it applies to managing food production and sustainable use of natural resources. Students will develop skills in critical thinking, problem solving, research and communication. Graduates will be able to apply the principles of science to solutions-based management. They will also complete a research thesis in fourth year.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent; assumed knowledge: Mathematics, Chemistry.


In the first 2 years of the degree, students undertake core units of study designed to provide fundamental scientific principles as well as a basic overview of agricultural science and natural resource management. In the third year, students undertake the range of elective units most appropriate for progression to a fourth year major. An International Student Exchange Program is available. Students undertaking the International Specialisation will spend two semesters at an approved international institution.

Further information:

40 days of professional experience in addition to field trips and field-based classes. Students will also have opportunities to network with industry and prospective employers. Examples include agricultural business manager, agronomist, biotechnologist, environment protection manager, financial manager, horticulturalist, marketer of agricultural products, plant breeding, scientific researcher, soil scientist, statistician, sustainable production manager, other science-related occupations.


Graduates are eligible for membership of various professional societies, depending on units studied.
