This program allows students to complement studies in the humanities and social sciences with a solid grounding in mainstream economics. It provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the overall context of business and government, and the high-level technical skills to analyse economic and social data and events. This interdisciplinary program will equip students with key capacity to develop economic and social policy as well as a critical approach to enquiry and the ability to form and articulate judgements based on argument and evidence. This course allows students to complement studies in the humanities and social sciences with a solid grounding in modern economics. This course will appeal to students interested in public policy.

Structure

The B Advanced Studies is not a standalone degree. In the combined degree you will complete two majors, one from Table A and the other from Table S - the wide range of majors offered from areas across the University. Major studies are complemented by short foundation courses in areas such as entrepreneurial thinking, persuasive communication, project management and ethical reasoning. You will have the opportunity to undertake advanced, academically challenging coursework and will complete a research, community, industry or entrepreneurship project in your fourth year.

Standard entry requirements

Year 12 or equivalent. Assumed knowledge: Mathematics. Other assumed knowledge depends on the first-year units selected. From 2019, this course will require a course prerequisite of Mathematics (Band 4 or higher). The assumed knowledge will still apply.

Recognition

By completing a sequence of units that includes accounting, finance and commercial law, students may be eligible for professional accreditation with CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. Depending on units selected, professional recognition is also available from the Australian Human Resources Institute.
