This program provides the knowledge and skills relevant to understanding both traditional and emerging security challenges. International security studies traverse a complex and frequently interconnected set of issues that have great salience for the world in which we live. These include the causes and consequences of war between states, intrastate ethnic, religious and ideological conflicts, threats to human security and the stability of states arising from environmental degradation, and the transnational security challenges posed by infectious diseases and organised crime.

Standard entry requirements
- A bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney with a minimum credit (65%) average calculated over the whole degree, including a major in a relevant subject area in the humanities, social sciences or public health, or an equivalent qualification
- Orcompletion of the requirements for the embedded Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Health Communication with a minimum credit (65%) average, or an equivalent qualification.If you do not meet the requirements listed above for direct entry to the Master’s degree, you may be able to enter via a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in the same subject area and upgrade to the Master’s after successful completion of the shorter course.
