Develop your understanding of the law, the tools to research and interpret legal materials, and how make arguments about law as an insider - with a broader context of law in society. Work in the legal field without setting foot in the courtroom. Follow your passions with units available in environmental, sports, media, information technology and animal law, corporate social responsibility and consumer law, family and healthcare law, criminology and sentencing, human rights and advocacy, and more. Study core units shared with the Bachelor of Laws as part of this degree, giving you options to transfer from one degree to the other, and to apply for advanced standing (credit) for units you have successfully completed. From 2018 onwards, you have more flexibility and choice in how your degree is structured, with real-world learning embedded, and an integrated Applied or Research pathway after you successfully complete the Bachelor of Legal Studies. This degree is part of A New State of Mind we are creating through our new curriculum. Delivered through the Faculty of Law, this degree provides a comprehensive introduction to law, legal systems and dispute resolution processes. As law is a diverse discipline, the major (eight units) includes core units that introduce you to law, legal systems, legal reasoning and private law, and then a comprehensive choice of legal units taught by experts in their field. The degree's flexible structure allows you to tailor course content to suit your own interests. Choose from over forty minors (four units) across Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Economics and Science. Dive deeper into specific areas of law you're interested in, or broaden your study choosing individual elective units from across the University of Tasmania. In addition to traditional Research Honours, you can now also choose an integrated, work-focused Applied Honours pathway once you have successfully complete the Bachelor of Legal Studies.
