This qualification is part of the Seafood Industry Training Package. It contains the competencies required by an experienced deckhand undertaking a wide range of fishing operation tasks.

18 units: 4 core; 14 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Apply basic food handling and safety practices; Communicate in the seafood industry; Work effectively in the seafood industry; Meet workplace OHS requirements. Electives: Slaughter livestock; Maintain the temperature of seafood; Manage and control fishing operations; Perform underwater work in the wild catch sector; Handle stock; Develop information and advice on fishing charter trips; Survive at sea in the event of vessel abandonment; Operate and carry out basic servicing on auxiliary systems; Monitor and record fishing operations; Handle and pack sashimi-grade fish; plus more.
