This qualification is part of the Maritime Training Package. It is suitable for people who work in the maritime industry operating as Chief Engineer on vessels with propulsion power up to 1500 kW and Second Engineer on vessels with propulsion power up to 3000 kW in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Work effectively with others; Manage vessel stability; Undertake basic maintenance of electrical systems; Carry out basic welding, brazing, cutting and machining operations on a coastal vessel; Manage refuelling; Undertake maintenance of 240 to 440 voltage alternating current electrical systems; Undertake maintenance of machinery, machinery systems and structural components; Complete engine room tasks; Maintain hull out of water; Operate and maintain extra low and low voltage electrical systems and equipment; Operate deck machinery; Operate marine internal combustion engines, and propulsion and auxiliary systems; Manage fuel systems; Operate and monitor marine internal combustion engines, propulsion plant and auxiliary systems; plus more.
