The Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), situated on the Hobart waterfront, is home to some of the world’s leading researchers in climate and ocean science, giving students direct access to top experts, scientific facilities, and the marine environment they are studying.

The Hedberg is a world-class performing arts centre in Hobart that equips music, creative arts, and media students with the agility needed for to work in communication and creative careers.

The Medical Science Precinct – which includes the Menzies Institute for Medical Research – is located close to the Royal Hobart Hospital, creating a learning community that organically blends the lives of students, researchers and working medical professionals.

And the Australian Maritime College (AMC) in Launceston is a globally recognised institute for maritime education, training and research. With cutting edge facilities, the AMC attracts students from around Australia and overseas, with courses ranging from seafaring and logistics, through to advanced naval design and engineering.

The University’s close alignment with industry means its graduates enjoy an enviably high postgraduate employment rate in numerous areas, particularly in pharmacy, allied health, education, and nursing. And the median salary for our undergraduate students entering the workforce is above the national average.

There’s more than one way into University

Because university education should be for everyone, but everyone takes a different path to get there, the University of Tasmania offers a suite of Pathway Programs to help remove the barriers, so you can qualify for enrolment and prepare for study, no matter your background or experience.

There are bridging courses to learn the academic skills you’ll need to be a student and qualify for entry, even if you didn’t choose the ATAR pathway at school; one-year preparation courses in various subject areas, designed to be stepping stones to your chosen bachelor’s degree; and the Schools Recommendation Program, which allows year 12 students to secure an early offer of a place at university, based on the recommendations of their teachers and school staff, taking away some of the pressure at exam time.

And there is a huge range of scholarships and financial assistance available to help with the costs of study, accommodation, or even relocating.

Study sustainably

Driven by its desire to take a leadership role in its research and operations, both within the sector and more broadly, the University has been certified carbon neutral since 2016, and has divested from fossil fuel-exposed investment funds, creating an environmentally sustainable investment portfolio.

And with a range of other ongoing sustainable development initiatives – such as community gardens, community science engagement, and a Sustainability major that can be added to most bachelor’s degrees – no matter what you study, you will be contributing to a more sustainable future just by studying at the University of Tasmania.
