Anna Hynes Curtis Refugee Scholarship

University of Technology Sydney (UTS)

The Anna Hynes Curtis Refugee Scholarship has been established to support a student from a refugee background commencing their first year, or continuing to their second year of a UTS Business degree who demonstrates financial need or other educational disadvantage/s.

Eligibility

Applicants must: be: permanent humanitarian visa holders; or be the child of a holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; be commencing their first year, or continuing their second year in a UTS Business undergraduate degrees (BBus, BBusBAIS, BBusBCII, BMgt, BMgtBAIS, BMgtBCII, BEcon); continuing students must have completed 48cp or less of a UTS Business undergraduate degree and have maintained a minimum Pass average in any study in that course; be enrolled full time for the duration of the Scholarship; have applied through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) for an Equity Scholarship and therein demonstrate financial disadvantage; apply using the UTS online Scholarships Application form to be eligible; be available to attend an interview in person. Selection is based on: Refugee or child of refugee status; financial need and other equity circumstances (applicants will be considered if they have experienced long-term educational disadvantage and/or financial hardship due to: low socio-economic status backgrounds (low SES); and/or from non-English speaking backgrounds (NESB); and/or people with disabilities or long term medical conditions; and/or from regional and remote areas; and/or experiencing educational barriers and/or personal hardship (including but not limited to carers, sole parents); motivation to succeed in the chosen UTS Business degree program; demonstrated initiative to seek opportunities to continually advance their professional and personal lives.

Preference will be given to students who meet one or more of the financial need or other equity criteria.

Amount $6,000

The scholarship is valued at $6,000 per year for 3 years, a payment of $3,000 to be made in Autumn and Spring sessions.
