University of the Sunshine Coast (USC)

Students pursue career opportunities in areas such as advocacy, community education and research. They will gain skills and knowledge in social and political theory, social research and public policy and develop a critical understanding of the social, political, economic and environmental processes that underpin social change and conflict at local, national and international levels. The core focus of this course is sociology and students can specialise in geography, politics and international relations, public policy, Indigenous studies, development studies or criminology. They will complete an industry project within a social or community organisation.

Year 12 or equivalent; Year 12 English is recommended


24 subjects: 3 required introductory subjects; 5 required advanced subjects, 8 subjects which must comprise either one major or 2 minors plus 8 elective subjects which can be used to complete an additional minor or major.

Study Pathways:

An honours year is available. The honours year requires completion of 96 units made up of 48 units dissertation and 48 units coursework. Advanced standing available to graduates of the TAFE Diploma of Community Welfare Work.
