DOMESTIC STUDENTS - ATAR-BASED ADMISSION OPTIONS Guaranteed entry selection ranks: entry to this course can be gained with: Minimum ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) International Baccalaureate (IB) Interstate equivalent (such as the Victorian ENTER or Queensland OP) Results in an overseas qualification deemed equivalent to Australian year 12. The minimum score for guaranteed entry (or for consideration if this course has limited places) is an ATAR-Selection Rank of 85 or an IB of 31. This includes the effect of adjustment factors. Adjustment factors, such as the subjects you are studying, the area in which you live or equity and access schemes, are taken into consideration and these will be combined with your ATAR to adjust your selection rank and make it higher than your ATAR. These adjustments used to be called bonus points. ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE AND RECOMMENDED STUDIES The University assumes students will have studied Mathematics and two units of Science. Students who have not completed Chemistry and/or Biology in the HSC are strongly recommended to enrol in bridging courses offered in February each year. Students without at least Mathematics (Band 4) are required to pass an approved mathematics subject during their degree. Ideally, students will have studied Biology and Chemistry. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS Applicants need to have achieved the required score in a qualification equivalent to the completion of 13 years of schooling in Australia. In order to succeed in the students chosen course, it is assumed they have completed relevant subjects in your senior high school studies or other relevant qualifications. This is particularly important for degrees which have a strong basis in Mathematics or Science.
Structure:
4 years full-time or part-time equivalent. Studies in biology, chemistry and earth and environmental sciences in first year lead to second-year studies that provide students with an understanding of plant and animal ecology, landscape science, and how organisms function. Third-year subjects focus on research training and experience in conservation biology and ecology providing students with significant breadth in their research experience in preparation for the Honours year.

If applicants can demonstrate they have met the learning outcomes for UOW subjects through prior learning, such as previous tertiary or TAFE qualifications, they may be eligible for credit towards their degree. Where relevant to the UOW degree, specified credit may be given for a specific subject(s); where not relevant to the degree, unspecified credit may be awarded. An Honours (Dean's Scholar) program is also available.
Recognition:
Graduates qualify to apply for membership of relevant professional societies, such as the Ecological Society of Australia.
