The Bachelor of Performance and Theatre at UOW is an intensive, practice-based course that inspires and prepares you for a career in the performing arts and broader creative industries. Our staff are industry-based practitioners who are passionate about helping performers reach their artistic potential. They are well connected in the Performing Arts industry and are highly trained specialists in acting, voice, movement, directing, and technical production.  This course offers two streams: Acting and Theatre Making.

Structure

  • To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Performance and Theatre, students must satisfactorily complete at least 144 credit points, comprised of the following:1. Core subjects for the Bachelor of Performance and Theatre, as outlined below (54 credit points)2. At least one of the two majors in this degree:a. Acting Intensive (66 credit points) as outlined below
  • ORb. Theatre Making (48 credit points) as outlined below.3. Electives subjects to bring the total number of credit points completed to 144. Electives may be chosen:a. from subjects in the major not taken, and/orb. from the recommended electives for this degree, and/orc. from the general schedule.d. from an ASSH minor on the general schedule of minors.No more than 60 credit points can be taken in 100-level subjects.Students studying the Theatre Making major may choose to complete a second major from within ASSH. Information regarding minors is available on the ASSH General Schedule of Minors page.Work Integrated LearningSome Majors will have a specific internship subject available for students. Otherwise, students can consider CRLP200 'Career Ready Learning and Practice' (6cp). CRLP200 includes a quality assured workplace internship or industry project to give you that competitive edge by developing your professional skills through authentic learning in a real world context. You will focus on your career goals and receive career direction guidance, strengthen your resume and gain skills to navigate the rapidly changing world of work, develop your communication skills and begin to build a professional network.INDS208 Working with Indigenous Communities is an elective subject available to all students. INDS208 fosters work skills, cultural competency and develops student awareness of Indigenous knowledges and community practices.

Standard entry requirements

Successful completion of a qualification equivalent to the completion of 13 years of schooling in Australia. It is assumed you have completed relevant subjects in your senior high school studies or other relevant qualifications, in order to succeed in this course.Entry into the Acting major is based on a combination of both academic results and audition scores. You will be required to audition to demonstrate your talent and potential to benefit from the course. You will be invited to register for an audition as part of the application process.

Study pathways

If applicants can demonstrate they have met the learning outcomes for UOW subjects through prior learning, such as previous tertiary or TAFE qualifications, they may be eligible for credit towards their degree. Where relevant to the UOW degree, specified credit may be given for specific subject(s); where not relevant to the degree, unspecified credit may be awarded.
