The Bachelor of Computer Science - Bachelor of Mathematics double degree offers an opportunity to combine the power of mathematics with knowledge bases in other disciplines. Pure Maths, Mathematical Analysis, Applied Statistics, and Industrial Maths are some of the programs that can be combined with Computer Science. This integrated double degree provides a broad education which is the foundation for career success, and also allows in-depth study of at least two academic disciplines. UOW double degrees aim to broaden a student's knowledge and skill base and improve career options in competitive, increasingly interactive fields. The programs are designed to enhance a student's educational, academic and professional qualifications whilst minimising the costs of their studies.

Structure

  • To qualify for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Mathematics - Bachelor of Computer Science, students must complete 216 credit points and satisfy all core course requirements for both the Bachelor of Mathematics and the Bachelor of Computer Science respectively, which includes:a) Mathematics component to a total value of 102 credit points, consisting of:i) 60 credit points of core subjects (excluding CSIT110 and MTST399)
  • ii) one of MATH212, MATH222, STAT201
  • iii) 30 credit points of 300- and/or 400-level subjects (additional to MATH300 and not including MTST399) from the Mathematics Schedule
  • andiv) one 6 credit point elective subject.b) Computer Science component to the value of 114 credit points consisting of:i) 90 credit points of core subjects (excluding MATH221)
  • andii) 24 credit points of 300-level computer science subjects (additional to the core subjects) or an approved major listed under the Bachelor of Computer Science.

Standard entry requirements

  • ATAR-BASED ADMISSION OPTIONS Entry to this course can be gained with: Minimum ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank)
  • International Baccalaureate (IB)
  • Interstate equivalent (such as Victoria’s ENTER or Queensland OP)
  • Results in an overseas qualification deemed equivalent to Australian year 12. The minimum score for guaranteed entry (or for consideration if this course has limited places) is an ATAR-Selection Rank of 75 or an IB of 26. This includes the effect of adjustment factors. Adjustment factors, such as the subjects you are studying, the area in which you live or equity and access schemes, are taken into consideration and these will be combined with your ATAR to adjust your selection rank and make it higher than your ATAR. COURSE PREREQUISITE You must have completed Mathematics Advanced or equivalent (not Mathematics standard 2) or higher at Year 12 level. ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE AND RECOMMENDED STUDIES The University assumes students will have studied Mathematics Advanced and any two units of English. Ideally, students will have studied Mathematics Extension 1. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS Applicants need to have achieved the required score in a qualification equivalent to the completion of 13 years of schooling in Australia.

Recognition

The Bachelor of Computer Science is accredited by the Australian Computer Society as meeting requirements for membership at the "Professional level".

Study pathways

If applicants can demonstrate they have met the learning outcomes for UOW subjects through prior learning, such as previous tertiary or TAFE qualifications, they may be eligible for credit towards their degree. Where relevant to the UOW degree, specified credit may be given for specific subject(s); where not relevant to the degree, unspecified credit may be awarded.
