The Graduate Certificate in Autism is an online course that has been designed to provide professionals and parents with the knowledge and skills required to support the successful learning and employment of autistic and neurodivergent individuals in a variety of school, home and employment settings. This course takes a social justice perspective to creating successful learning and employment environments and programs for neurodivergentchildren and adults.In the course of this degree you will examine the key principles of diagnosis and assessment, and reflect on how the history of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has led to current beliefs and the development of programs for neurodivergent individuals and their families. You will learn to conduct environmental assessments and implement key strategies to adjust the environment and to build in structure and supports to enhance different learning environments for individuals on the autism spectrum.You will also review the current research on evidence-based practice and will be guided in utilising this research in practice for the implementation of effective learning and employment programs. You will have an opportunity to explore the latest research and knowledge in relevant areas such as use of technology, collaborative communities of practice, leadership, transitions, and self-determination of autistic individuals.

Standard entry requirements

  • A recognised bachelor degree in any area. Applicants who have completed other tertiary studies and have substantial relevant professional experience working with autistic or neurodivergent individuals
  • Or, have completed other tertiary qualifications and have lived experience with autism or neurodivergence, can be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis.

Study pathways

All subjects successfully completed in the Graduate Certificate will count as credit towards the Master of Education (Special Education) or Master of Autism, enabling completion within one-year full-time equivalent.
