The Master of Indigenous Health is designed to prepare those involved in Indigenous health, or health workers in the area of Indigenous health, for clinical and administrative leadership roles in the health care system. The program emphasises independent study and enquiry, and is structured for planned and consistent integration of theory with practical skills and competencies.

Structure

• The Master of Indigenous Health requires the successful completion of 72 credit points of subjects as specified below.1) 30 credit points of core subjects2) Research subject, either MEDI945 Major Project in Indigenous Health 24 credit points, or MEDI933 Minor Project in Indigenous Health 12 credit points3) Elective subjects: 18 credit points if completing MEDI945 Major Project 24 credit points, or 30 credit points of electives if completing MEDI933 Minor Project 12 credit points. One elective subject at 6 credit points must include either: SNPG915 Essential Skills for Health Researchers
• SNPG953 Special Topic in Research
• or MEDI986 Principles of Health Research.Students who have completed the Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Trauma Recovery Practice (ITRP) Program, will receive advanced standing for MEDI839 Indigenous Trauma Care and Recovery Practice 18 credit point, and for 1 x 6 credit point elective.Students entering with a Graduate Certificate (not ITRP) will be give up to 24 credit points of advanced standing as determined by the APD.

Standard entry requirements

A bachelor’s degree of three years' duration, or a Graduate Certificate or a Graduate Diploma. Recognition may be given for relevant work experience or prior learning.
