The Master of Public Health is a flexible one-year degree designed to provide a broad introduction to public health. With a strong focus on Work Integrated Learning, industry connections, and practical placements (available through the Public Health Practice specialisation), you will put theory into practice and develop diverse skills and knowledge in public health. You will engage in innovative learning experiences that provide advanced work-ready skills and develop a keen analytical and social lens to address issues of global health significance.

Structure

  • The Master of Public Health requires the successful completion of 48 credit points* consisting of:1. 24 credit points of core public health subjects, plus2. Either
  • a. a 24 credit point Master of Public Health specialisation, OR
  • b. an 18 credit point Master of Public Health specialisation, plus the 6 credit point capstone subject
  • PGPH904, OR
  • c. 18 credit points of subjects chosen in consultation with the Academic Program Director, plus the 6 credit point capstone subject
  • PGPH904.* Students who receive recognition of prior learning for subjects within this degree are required to take elective options from the public health specialisations to bring the total credit points to at least 48 credit points.

Subjects

  • The specialisations available are Health Promotion, Public Health Nutrition* and Public Health Research. * Subject to final approval, the Public Health Nutrition specialisation will be renamed 'Food and Health'

Standard entry requirements

  • Admission to the Master of Public Health requires:an undergraduate degree with a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 65, plus one of the following: a one-year Honours degree, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma. At least one qualification must be in a field relevant to public health
  • ORan undergraduate degree (minimum WAM of 65) plus significant professional or volunteer experience in a field relevant to public health (equivalent of 2 years full time)..

Recognition

Graduates of the Master of Public Health may apply for membership of the Australian Health Promotion Association and the Public Health Association of Australia.

Study pathways

Graduates of the UOW Bachelor of Public Health will be awarded advanced standing for 2 core subjects in the Master of Public Health, plus a further 2 subjects if undertaking the Health Promotion stream. A Master of Public Health (Advanced) is also available.
