The Master of Public Health is a specialised degree for students who wish to pursue research careers in public health, or whose future career will require them to interpret and apply the findings of the research. It is intended for students who are from public health disciplines and want to enhance their research and career prospects. The Master of Public Health is a flexible degree designed to give students a broad introduction to public health and to provide the skills and knowledge to define, critically assess and resolve public health issues within a community. This flexible and interest-driven program allows students to develop, analyse and implement policy, and to plan and evaluate health services and programs whilst catering for their individual career goals. UOW is home to public health researchers who are leaders in their field in Australia and internationally. Our academics will supervise you to build your own research career through our public health projects and our research seminar series. At UOW you will have the opportunity to develop your practical public health skills and professional networks so that you are competitive in the workforce.

Entry Requirements:

Admission to the Master of Public Health requires a Bachelor degree from any discipline.

Structure:

The program is structured in a manner that responds to the constantly changing health and social issues both at local and international levels. The degree is composed of eight core public health subjects, plus a choice of one of three specialisations comprised of four subjects.

Subjects you can Study:

The specialisations available are Health Promotion, Public Health Nutrition* and Public Health Research. * Subject to final approval, the Public Health Nutrition specialisation will be renamed 'Food and Health'

Study Pathways:

Graduates of the UOW Bachelor of Public Health will be awarded advanced standing for 2 core subjects in the Master of Public Health, plus a further 2 subjects if undertaking the Health Promotion stream. A Master of Public Health (Advanced) is also available.

Recognition:

Graduates of the Master of Public Health may apply for membership of the Australian Health Promotion Association and the Public Health Association of Australia.
