Petroleum Engineers solve problems and design technologies that operate many kilometres underground to recover gas and oil from the earth in an efficient, safe and environmentally responsible manner. Students learn to apply practical science to the challenges associated with exploration, drilling and production as well as engaging with the socio-political context of the industry. The Petroleum Engineering degree is internationally accredited and prepares graduates for work in all aspects of oil and gas development and production, CSG production, geothermal energy and carbon dioxide capture and sequestration. After your first year of Petroleum Engineering you can combine your BE(Hons) with a bachelors degree in Chemical or Mining Engineering.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 HSC or equivalent; Assumed Knowledge: HSC Mathematics Extension 1 and Physics.


Students must complete 60 days of Industrial Training and four (24 UOC) courses per semester.

Computer modelling and simulation to support development and production of oil and gas resources, Drilling Engineering, Formation Evaluation, Integrated Field Development, Natural Gas Engineering, Petroleum Geology and Geostatistics, Petroleum economics, Reservoir Engineering.
