This is a six year integrated Medicine program which leads to the awards of Bachelor of Medical Studies (BMed) and Doctor of Medicine (MD). This program aims: to establish an integrated, interconnected and organised medical knowledge base as a platform for a professional and personal life of learning through experience; to develop effective interactions with oneself through reflection, interaction with others through communication, and interaction with information and learning resources through information literacy and critical analysis; and to develop a set of personal attributes and skills appropriate to the professional practice of medicine.

Structure

Contact with patients and observation of the physical aspects of disease commences in Year 1 and continues to Year 6.

Standard entry requirements

  • Selection criteria: Academic merit
  • Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test (UMAT)
  • And interview. There are no course prerequisites
  • However, English is assumed knowledge and Chemistry is recommended.

Recognition

Graduates are eligible for registration by medical boards in all Australian states and territories and in New Zealand.

Further information

Due to the structure of the curriculum, few if any credits can be granted to students entering medicine after partly completing or completing another degree. Exemption from all or part of the requirement to undertake 12 Units of Credit of General Education courses will be considered and granted when applicable.
