This combined degree is designed for aspiring secondary school teachers wishing to teach classroom and instrumental/vocal music. After completing the program, students will have a professional teaching qualification as well as a specialist degree in music. This program includes 80 days of supervised teaching practice in at least two different secondary schools.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent; Audition/ Musicianship Test; Assumed knowledge: Band 5 or higher in any HSC English course or the equivalent; Applicants are expected to have reached the level of at least Grade 7 AMEB Performance (or equivalent) and Music 2, or Grade 6 AMEB Musicianship (or equivalent), or HSC Music Extension.


240 units of credit, including core courses in musicology, musicianship, and performance lab; choice of specialist music stream - music creative practice, musicology, music pedagogy or sonic arts; extensive training in ensemble skills and professional practices; education courses and teaching methods courses.

Proficiency in English is essential in all courses that form a part of the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) component of the dual degree. It is expected that all applicants will have a Higher School Certificate minimum Band 5 in Standard English, English as a Second Language or Advanced English, or an overall IELTS score of 7.5, with a minimum of 8.0 in Speaking and Listening and a minimum of 7.0 in Reading and Writing, or the equivalent.


This course is recognised as a professional teaching qualification in all states/territories of Australia.
