This postgraduate degree is an innovation in interpreting education. It allows students to specialise exclusively in interpreting and is the first time that UNSW has offered this opportunity. The Master of Interpreting reflects the growing international need for specialists with advanced knowledge and skills in interpreting practice. This degree is NAATI accredited at the professional interpreter level which includes specialised interpreter courses and encompasses all relevant interpreting modes.

Structure

1.5 year program: 72 units of credit (UOC) consisting of 8 core courses and 4 elective courses. 1 year program: 48 units of credit (UOC) consisting of 7 core courses and 1 elective course.

Standard entry requirements

  • 1 year plan: Bachelor degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant discipline with a record of academic achievement equivalent to a UNSW credit average (65%), plus 1 year relevant professional experience and an advanced level of bilingual proficiency
  • Honours degree or Graduate Diploma (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant discipline with a record of academic achievement equivalent to a UNSW credit average (65%) and an advanced level of bilingual proficiency
  • 1.5 year plan: Bachelor degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant discipline with a record of academic achievement equivalent to a UNSW credit average (65%) and an advanced level of bilingual proficiency
  • Bachelor degree (or equivalent qualification) in any discipline with a record of academic achievement equivalent to a UNSW credit average (65%), plus 1 year relevant professional experience and an advanced level of bilingual proficiency
  • Honours degree or Graduate Diploma or equivalent
