This program is suitable for students who want to study a Science degree at UTS but do not meet the direct entry requirements. Students who complete the program can fast track into the second year of a number of exciting UTS Science courses. Students will either undertake the Physical or Life Sciences stream. The program offers a pathway to the Bachelor of Science at UTS and provides students with knowledge of the core disciplines of mathematics and physics along with specific scientific knowledge. Students will understand the practical uses for science and engineering of basic skills in the core areas and will be able to communicate professionally and ethically in scientific environments. They will have the breadth, depth and complexity of skills and knowledge to be able to plan, manage and review a range of solutions to problems in scientific environments.

Standard entry requirements

  • Year 12 or equivalent
  • Pre-Requisite for Science, Physical Sciences Stream: students are assumed to be operationally familiar with the following mathematical concepts: Algebra
  • Quadratic Equations
  • Linear Relationships
  • Graphing
  • Exponents and Logarithms
  • Geometry
  • Trigonometric Functions
  • Areas and Volumes
  • Differentiation
  • Integration. Previous study of physics and chemistry is also recommended. Applicants who do not have the assumed knowledge outlined above, or who do not feel confident with this material, should enrol in the Extended Diploma of Science. Life Sciences Stream: students are assumed to be operationally familiar with the following mathematical concepts: Algebra

Study pathways

Students who complete the Diploma of Science will receive 48 credit points towards the following Bachelor of UTS Science majors: Applied Chemistry, Applied Physics, Biomedical Science, Biotechnology, Chemical Sciences, General (Life & Environmental Sciences), General (Physical Sciences), Medical and Molecular Biosciences, Medical Science, Nanotechnology, Physics and Advanced Materials; 48 credit points towards the following degrees: Bachelor of Biomedical Science, Bachelor of Biotechnology, Bachelor of Environmental Biology, Bachelor of Marine Biology, Bachelor of Medical Science, Bachelor of Advanced Science (Immunity and Infection), Bachelor of Advanced Science (Advanced Materials), Bachelor of Advanced Science (Pre-Medicine); Bachelor of Advanced Science (Environmental Biotechnology); Bachelor of Biomedical Physics; Bachelor of Medicinal Chemistry. Plus 42 credit points towards: Bachelor of Forensic Biology in Biomedical Science, Bachelor of Forensic Science in Applied Chemistry.
