This course provides students with a foundation for further studies in education which can lead to a teaching qualification. Students who graduate from this course will have completed a major and minor in a specialist teaching area, enabling them to pathway into a Master of Teaching (Secondary Education) or Master of Teaching (Primary Education). In addition, students who successfully complete first year, and meet the literacy and numeracy and non-academic skills benchmarks, may choose to apply to transfer into the second year of the undergraduate Bachelor of Education P-12 program. Students would also acquire skills and knowledge that would allow them to work in a number of education, community, public and welfare service settings. Graduates of Bachelor of Education Studies may also be employed in such areas as tutoring and mentoring programs and working in education places aligned to their completed specialisation domains e.g. museums, laboratories, after school care etc.

Entry Requirements:

Successful completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (VCE or equivalent) including Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in any other English.

Structure:

To attain the Bachelor of Education Studies, students will be required to complete 288 credit points, consisting of: 96 credit points of Core Studies units 96 credit points of Major studies 48 credit points of Mandatory Minor studies 48 credit points of Minor studies

Victoria University is the only university in Australia to use the block teaching model, which has been in operation throughout Sweden and parts of North America for more than four decades.

First-year and second-year students at Victoria University complete one subject every four weeks, are assessed, and then proceed to the next four-week unit. Immersion in each subject allows students to master it, rather than juggling four units at once. From 2020, all students will be taught in this way.

Victoria University is one of only six Australian universities to combine higher education and vocational and further education with its Victoria University Polytechnic, which is based on multiple university campuses. The Polytechnic creates pathways direct to the workforce or to university degrees.

VU College offers English language courses, pathway diplomas and courses for international students at its Melbourne and Sydney campuses as well as offshore with international education partners.
