This program produces graduates with professional competencies and highly valued generic skills such as critical thinking, teamwork/collaboration and effective communication. Students will develop a core knowledge of the principles and practices of legal services industry underpinned by specialised studies in legal writing and drafting, interviewing, and legal research and compliance. It will prepare them for a career in the legal services industry although it does not enable graduates to practice law as a legal practitioner. Students will engage with important ethical principles and develop appropriate professional conduct towards clients, employers, and community.

288 credit points consisting of 96 credit points of core studies, 96 credit points of major studies and 96 credit points of minor studies.

Standard entry requirements

Units 3 and 4 and a study score of at least 25 in English (ESL) or 20 in any other English. A study score of 25 in any Business, any English other than EAL, any Humanities, any Information Technology or any Mathematics equals 5 aggregate points per study. Overall maximum of 15 points.

Study pathways

Candidates with backgrounds in legal service-related areas are encouraged to apply and will be considered. Applicants who have not completed Year 12 but who possess appropriate educational qualifications, work or life experiences which would enable them to successfully undertake the course, will be considered for admission. Applicants may be required to participate in an interview as part of the selection process. A potential alternative exit pathway exists via the Associate Degree in Legal Services with completion of 192 credit points.
