Certificate III in Health Services Assistance

Victoria University (VU)

This qualification is part of the Health Training Package. It covers workers in a range of work roles who use a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge to provide assistance to health professional staff for the care of clients. Health services assistance involves the worker in direct client contact under supervision.

Entry Requirements:

No minimum education. Pre-requisite units apply to some electives.

Structure:

15 units: 7 core; 8 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Communicate and work in health or community services; Work with diverse people; Recognise healthy body systems; Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures; Participate in workplace health and safety; plus more. Electives: Handle and care for operating theatre equipment; Assist with preparation of clients for operative procedures; Provide intra-operative equipment and technical support; Assist with movement; Respond effectively to behaviours of concern; Transport individuals; Provide non-client contact support in an acute care environment; Assist with nursing care in an acute care environment; plus non-specialist electives.

Victoria University is the only university in Australia to use the block teaching model, which has been in operation throughout Sweden and parts of North America for more than four decades.

First-year and second-year students at Victoria University complete one subject every four weeks, are assessed, and then proceed to the next four-week unit. Immersion in each subject allows students to master it, rather than juggling four units at once. From 2020, all students will be taught in this way.

Victoria University is one of only six Australian universities to combine higher education and vocational and further education with its Victoria University Polytechnic, which is based on multiple university campuses. The Polytechnic creates pathways direct to the workforce or to university degrees.

VU College offers English language courses, pathway diplomas and courses for international students at its Melbourne and Sydney campuses as well as offshore with international education partners.
