This qualification is part of the Health Training Package. It covers workers who provide therapeutic and program-related support to allied health professionals. The worker is required to conduct therapeutic and program-related activities, identify client circumstances that need additional input, engaged to work in a specialty area or work generically across the organisation and supervising other allied health assistance workers.

16 units: 7 core; 9 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Communicate and work in health or community services; Work with diverse people; Manage legal and ethical compliance; Recognise healthy body systems; Confirm physical health status; Follow safe work practices for direct client care; Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately. Elective streams: Deliver and monitor a client-specific physiotherapy program; Assist with basic foot hygiene; Assist with the development and maintenance of client functional status; Support the development of speech and communication skills; plus more.

Further information:

Applicants must possess Australian Core Skills Framework levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication, and numeracy skills to successfully complete this program. Students who do not possess these skills to the level required will be enrolled in additional subjects to build the required skills.

Victoria University is the only university in Australia to use the block teaching model, which has been in operation throughout Sweden and parts of North America for more than four decades.

First-year and second-year students at Victoria University complete one subject every four weeks, are assessed, and then proceed to the next four-week unit. Immersion in each subject allows students to master it, rather than juggling four units at once. From 2020, all students will be taught in this way.

Victoria University is one of only six Australian universities to combine higher education and vocational and further education with its Victoria University Polytechnic, which is based on multiple university campuses. The Polytechnic creates pathways direct to the workforce or to university degrees.

VU College offers English language courses, pathway diplomas and courses for international students at its Melbourne and Sydney campuses as well as offshore with international education partners.
