This program will provide students aspiring to become specialist Maths/Science teachers with a solid foundation in Science and/or Maths and facilitate a seamless pathway to a Master of Teaching (Secondary). It will provide graduates with two Teaching Majors in Science and up to three teaching minors, enabling them to teach General Science to Year 10 and Science to VCE secondary levels. The flexible structure allows students to study a range of Science disciplines including Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics and Mathematics as well as disciplines from other Colleges such as Psychology, English Literature and Aboriginal Studies.

  • 8 First Year units
  • 8 units of Major discipline studies plus either one of the following: 8 units of Major discipline studies or 8 units of Minor studies, equivalent to two Minors.

Standard entry requirements

Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (VCE or equivalent) including Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in any other English PLUS Units 3 and 4 with a study score of at least 20 in one of the following: Biology, Chemistry, Physics (any) or Mathematics (any).

Recognition

This course does not require accreditation, however, the Unit sequences leading to a teaching method have been approved by Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
