The English for Academic Purposes course aims to develop the reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar and vocabulary skills necessary to gain admission into a TAFE, undergraduate or postgraduate course at Victoria University. Each unit of the course has a specific purpose. EAP 3: this unit develops students basic academic skills and general English proficiency necessary to enter the EAP4 course at VU English EAP 4: this unit develops students academic language skills for entry into VU TAFE courses which require an overall IELTS 5.5 with no subtest below 5 (or equivalent) EAP 5 (University Preparation Undergraduate): this unit develops students academic language skills for entry into VU undergraduate courses which require IELTS 6.0 in all bands (or equivalent) EAP 6 (University Preparation Post Graduate): this unit develops students academic language skills for entry into VU post graduate, Bachelor or Diploma courses which require IELTS 6.5 or above. IELTS Academic: This unit develops students English language skills in addition to IELTS test taking strategies.
English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is offered across four levels. Levels are described in terms of language ability in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and IELTS in order to be consistent with industry standards. Units within the course consist of: EAP 3 (Intermediate/CEFR A2+/B1/IELTS 4.5 or equivalent), EAP 4 (Upper Intermediate/CEFR B1+/B2/IELTS 5.0 or equivalent), EAP 5 (University Preparation Undergraduate (UPU) - Upper Intermediate +/B2+/IELTS 5.5 or equivalent EAP 6 (University Preparation Postgraduate(UPP) - Advanced/ B2+/C1/IELTS 6 or equivalent IELTS Academic Upper Intermediate +/B2+/IELTS 5.5 or equivalent
