This qualification is part of the Community Services Training Package. It reflects the role of people with responsibility for the development and the outcomes of programs and services for young people managed through a range of agencies and designed to meet the social, behavioural, health, welfare, developmental and protection needs of young people. This work may be undertaken through employment in community, government and welfare agencies.

Structure:

21 units: 17 core; 4 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Develop, facilitate and monitor all aspects of case management; Develop, implement and review services and programs to meet client needs; Analyse impacts of sociological factors on clients in community work and services; Identify and respond to children and young people at risk; Manage service response to young people in crisis; plus more. Electives: Undertake outreach work; Respond holistically to client issues and refer appropriately; Recruit and coordinate volunteers; Develop and implement policy; plus more.

Study Pathways:

Advanced standing in certificate III, certificate IV and diploma courses in community services, welfare work, alcohol and other drugs work, disability work and aged care.

Victoria University is the only university in Australia to use the block teaching model, which has been in operation throughout Sweden and parts of North America for more than four decades.

First-year and second-year students at Victoria University complete one subject every four weeks, are assessed, and then proceed to the next four-week unit. Immersion in each subject allows students to master it, rather than juggling four units at once. From 2020, all students will be taught in this way.

Victoria University is one of only six Australian universities to combine higher education and vocational and further education with its Victoria University Polytechnic, which is based on multiple university campuses. The Polytechnic creates pathways direct to the workforce or to university degrees.

VU College offers English language courses, pathway diplomas and courses for international students at its Melbourne and Sydney campuses as well as offshore with international education partners.
