Certificate III in Racing - Trackrider

This qualification is part of the Racing Training Package. It covers the role of self-employed or employed persons who work independently with limited supervision in a defined range of varied contexts that may be complex and non-routine. It is for people who wish to be independently engaged or employed to exercise thoroughbred horses on the instruction of a trainer.

19 units: 16 core; 3 elective

Core: Follow OHS procedures and observe environmental work practices; Perform basic riding tasks; Apply first aid; Develop riding skills for flatwork; Comply with the rules of racing and related protocols; Perform stable duties; Achieve requirements for industry induction; Attend horses at trackwork; Manage personal health and fitness; Identify factors that affect racehorse performance; Communicate in the workplace; Develop basic trackwork riding skills; Handle horses; Exercise horses in pacework; Assist with transportation of horses; Ride horses at trackwork. Electives: Communicate electronically; Ride horses in jump outs; Deal with conflict; Develop riding skills for jumping racing; Attend horses at race meetings and trials; Educate thoroughbred horses for racing; Implement stable operations; Ride horses in trials; plus more.
