During his lifetime Dr Hayes was dedicated to providing fairness and justice for the most vulnerable in society drawing from his own personal experiences to make a lasting impact. For over 40 years he was often the last line of defence for some of the most misunderstood, marginalised and forgotten members of our community. One of the first law students in Australia to graduate with a PhD, Dr Hayes was also a committed teacher. In his final position, Associate Professor in the UWS School of Law, Dr Robert Hayes was committed to providing the highest quality legal education to his students. The Robert Hayes Memorial Scholarship is established in memory of Dr Robert Hayes who passed away in 2011. The vision of Elayne Hayes in honour of her late husband, the scholarship is supported by current and former students, colleagues and friends of Dr Hayes.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must: be Australian citizens or permanent residents; be in their third or fourth year of study of the Bachelor of Laws at WS; demonstrate a passion for and commitment to the Law. Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate financial or other hardship based on the WS Opportunity and Equity criteria and also including students who are first in their family to attend university.
