This qualification is part of the Community Services Training Package. It reflects the role of workers in a range of community settings and clients' homes, who provide training and support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.

Entry Requirements:

Certificate III in Disability or equivalent; and appropriate literacy and numeracy skills; plus already be employed in industry for approximately 20 hours a week.

14 units: 11 core; 3 elective

Core: Facilitate the empowerment of people with disability; Manage legal and ethical compliance; Develop and provide person-centred service responses; Facilitate community participation and social inclusion; Recognise healthy body systems; Facilitate ongoing skills development using a person-centred approach; Provide person-centred services to people with disability with complex needs; Provide individualised support; plus more. Elective: Assess co-existing needs; Respond to suspected abuse; Work in an alcohol and other drugs context; Support individuals with autism spectrum disorder; Provide community focused health promotion and prevention strategies; Work with forced migrants; Apply and manage use of basic oral health products; plus more.

Established in 1999, WISE Employment Ltd is a Registered Training Organisation and an employment service provider that concentrates on assisting people who are socially, economically and vocationally disadvantaged, to gain and maintain employment. Such people include: those with disabilities, the long-term unemployed, those with criminal records, or those whose personal circumstances have prevented them from participating in the job market. WISE Training focuses on facilitating learning which builds students' skills to support their life and employment goals. Courses are open to all potential students not just WISE Employment registered jobseekers.
