Duties & Tasks of a Window Cleaner
Window cleaners may perform the following tasks:
- Clean glass surfaces by applying and removing cleaning solutions or solvents
- Assemble and dismantle ladders, scaffolding and other support equipment
- Use ladders and other equipment (such as swinging scaffolds, bosun's chairs, hydraulic bucket trucks, cherry pickers and hoist systems) to reach windows in multistorey buildings
- Perform minor repairs to equipment
- Clean stone walls, metal surfaces, fascias and window frames.
Working conditions for a Window Cleaner
Window cleaners may at times be responsible for the security of the building in which they work. This responsibility may include holding onto keys and ensuring that lights are turned off, that the building is secure and that any security breaches are reported to building owners or managers. Window cleaners often work very early in the morning or at night, travel from one location to another and stand for most of the day. They may be employed as full-time, part-time or casual staff.
