The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil Design) and Diploma of Building Design is a dual degree allowing students to gain the skills and qualification needed for a career as a civil engineer skilled in high-level engineering design and building design. This course equips students with skills and knowledge in building design factors such as codes and statutes, building sustainability, and contracts together with foundational technical content in civil engineering. There is a strong focus on learning in context so students will apply theory to authentic scenarios throughout the course including industry projects.

Standard entry requirements
- English (Units 3 & 4, C) or equivalent
- Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C) or equivalent. English language requirements apply.
Accreditation for the course will be sought from Engineers Australia (next accreditation round - 2021) and the Building Designers Association of Australia (2021). There is a license for low rise and medium rise building designers issued by the Queensland Building and Construction Commission. The proposed Diploma of Building Design content is equivalent to the CPP50911 Diploma of Building Design that is currently recognised by the Queensland Building and Construction Commission as the minimum required technical qualification for the Building Design - low and medium rise licence classes. The school has contacted the commission with respect to their licensing requirements with a view to having this course recognised as a prescribed technical qualification for these licence classes.

Students can fast track their studies and complete this course in four years by studying in Term 3. Most units within this course are only available to study online. Some units require students to attend residential school. Students are required to complete 480 hours (including a minimum of 240 hours of industry experience) of Engineering Professional Practice prior to graduation.
