Clinical education is an integral part of the Bachelor of Nursing Science (Pre-registration). Students participate in supervised clinical practice in a variety of hospitals, health agencies and community settings. In addition, the course offers scientific, biophysical and humanistic behavioural knowledge. Students develop skills in communication, assessment of clients, planning and implementation of nursing interventions and management and evaluation of nursing care.
72 credit points. Students undertake 880 hours of supervised professional practice. Clinical placement must be undertaken in Queensland.

- Year 12 or equivalent
- English (Unit3/4,C). Recommended: biology, chemistry and any Maths (Units 3/4,C). Students must also meet requirements for placement: immunisation
- Completion of an Australian Nationally Accredited First Aid and CPR training course
- Suitability to Work with Children Card (Blue Card)
- Australian Federal Police check.
Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia; Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. This course is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council.
Applicants with TAFE diplomas in nursing can apply for credit but must also provide evidence of registration as an Enrolled Nurse (Division 2) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Honours is offered to students who meet the stated criteria, available on a full- or part-time basis.

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia requires all applicants seeking initial admission to the Nursing Register upon graduation from their nursing course to demonstrate the necessary English language skills. If students identify as Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, JCU can provide assistance through the Indigenous Health Careers Access Program (IHCAP). International student visa-holders must not enrol in more than a third of the total credit points for the course in online, distance or external study.
