This program prepares registered nurses with the knowledge and skills required for endorsement as a midwife. As competent practitioners, graduates will be able to facilitate the care of women and their families experiencing childbirth in a variety of settings.


24 credit points. There is a clinical component attached to each practice subject. The course requires attendance at residential schools and is offered part-time only.

Standard entry requirements

  • Completion of an AQF level 7 bachelor degree in nursing or equivalent qualification
  • AHPRA registration as Registered Nurse (Division 1)
  • And concurrent employment (minimum 0.4 FTE) in a midwifery unit.


Australian Nursing & Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). Graduates will be eligible for registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
