This specialised program provides you with training in the practice of art therapy, which combines art and counselling within a clinical, therapeutic or community context. Art therapy is used for the treatment and healing of developmental, emotional and psychological problems or disorders. Standard entry requirements

  • Postgraduate: Prerequisites - Course specific requirements - Applicants must provide a written application and submit a portfolio demonstrating their skills with a range of visual art media (Compilation of 10-15 photographs of your own original artwork).
  • Postgraduate: Prerequisites - Course specific requirements - Prospective students who do not meet the counselling skills requirements for entry into the Master of Art Therapy may pathway through our Introduction to Counselling Skills Course.
  • Postgraduate: Prerequisites - Course specific requirements - Specialisation - compulsory: Fine arts, graphic design, art education, psychology, counselling, social work, occupational therapy or nursing.
  • Postgraduate: Prerequisites - Undergraduate requirements - Successful completion of an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent).
  • International: IELTS - 7.5 < 7.0 - 7.5 IELTS (Academic) with no individual band less than 7.0.

The Master of Art Therapy is approved by the Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association (ANZACATA). Graduates of the Master of Art Therapy may apply for professional membership with ANZACATA. Membership may be subject to additional or ongoing requirements beyond completion of the degree.
