This course is designed to extend your real-world finance knowledge and skills. You will be introduced to contemporary issues concerning the operation of capital markets and the interaction between these markets and other economic units such as business, households, financial institutions and governments. In undertaking this study area you will acquire advanced technical knowledge and skill in financial products and markets, capital investments, equity and debt management, investments and risk management. You will develop relevant analytical skills along with an understanding of the economic factors influencing financial markets. You will exercise the skills of judgement and initiative for effective planning, problem solving and decision making in domestic and international business contexts.

The Master of Business is designed in three blocks of study: 1. Foundation studies (48 credit points), 2. Discipline studies (96 credit points), 3. Complementary studies (48 credit points)

Standard entry requirements

  • 2 year program you must have a recognised bachelor degree (or higher) in any discipline with a minimum grade point average of 4.00 (on QUT’s 7 point scale). 1.5 year program you must have one of: a recognised bachelor degree (or higher) in business or a related discipline with a minimum grade point average of 4.00 (on QUT’s 7 point scale)
  • Or a recognised bachelor degree (or higher) in any discipline with a minimum grade point average of 4.00 (on QUT’s 7 point scale) followed by at least seven years full-time (or equivalent) work experience in business or a related discipline. 1 year program you must have one of: a recognised bachelor honours degree in finance with a minimum grade point average of 4.00 (on QUT’s 7 point scale)
  • Or a recognised bachelor degree plus graduate certificate both in finance with a minimum grade point average of 4.00 (on QUT’s 7 point scale)
  • Or a recognised graduate diploma (or higher) in finance with a minimum grade point average of 4.00 (on QUT’s 7 point scale)
  • Or a recognised bachelor degree in finance with a minimum grade point average of 4.00 (on QUT’s 7 point scale) followed by at least seven years full-time (or equivalent) work experience in finance.

Recognition

Accounting: Certain units may assist with preparation for the professional programs offered by CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and the Institute of Public Accountants as part of their respective membership requirements, and for the Chartered Financial Analysts program. Management: Graduates will meet the membership entry requirements for the Australian Institute of Management. Professional Accounting: Graduates meet the academic component of the requirements for enrolment in the professional program offered by CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and the Institute of Public Accountants. Graduates are also eligible for exemptions in the qualifying program for membership of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Public Relations: This course is accredited by the industry's peak professional association, the Public Relations Institute of Australia.
