The Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Care (Birth - 5) is a four-year professional degree that qualifies you to work as a teacher in preschools and long day care as a four-year trained teacher, as well as preparing you for employment in other parts of the children's and family services sector. If you love working with children, this accredited four year teaching degree is for you.You will study child development and pedagogical practices, welfare, ethics, diversity and social justice. As well as core units you will undertake a practical work placement each semester which will allow you to apply what you've learned in a real workplace setting. During work placements, you will have the opportunity to test your theoretical understanding in a real workplace.This course requires the completion of 32 classroom based theory subjects and 8 practical placements (40 subjects in total). Full time students typically enrol in 4 theory subjects each semester and complete one work placement at the end of each semester. NOTE- In order to complete work placements, students will be required to have a current working with children check.- Students seeking employment in an early childhood centre will need to complete a senior first aid course to meet WorkCover requirements.- Students wishing to later register as a teacher for work in primary or secondary education, may also need the Higher School Certificate General Mathematics minimum Band 4 or completion of Mathematics (2 Unit). Standard entry requirements

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTSApplicants are required to hold, at minimum, one of the following to be considered eligible for admission:- a NSW HSC* (Higher School Certificate) or equivalent OR- a recognised Tertiary Preparation Certificate OR- a qualification from a Registered Training Organisation at Certificate IV level or above OR- the completion of at least one year full-time or equivalent study at university or accredited higher education institution.* This course requires you to have achieved English at Band 4 level or higher in your HSC. If you do not have Band 4 in English you may need to complete an IELTS test at your own expense and achieve the appropriate score as outlined in the entry requirements to be eligible for entry to this degreeINTERNATIONAL APPLICANTSInternational applicants must meet proof of eligibility and course entry requirements. In addition, international applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency at a minimum- IELTS level of 6.5 with a minimum level of 6 in any one band OR- TOEFL (Paper based test): Minimum 580 overall, with 53 Listening, 52 Reading, 59 Structure/ Written Expression, 5.0 TWE, OR- TOEFL (Computer based test): Minimum 237 overall, with 19 Listening, 19 Reading, 25 Structure/Writing, OR- TOEFL (Internet based test): Minimum 92 overall, with 18 Listening, 17 Reading, 22 Writing, 22 SpeakingFurther information please check the TAFE NSW International Australia website for details on fees and enrolment processes for international students.
