This qualification reflects the role of hairdressers who use a range of well-developed sales, consultation and technical skills and knowledge to provide a broad range of hairdressing services to clients. They use discretion and judgement to provide client services and take responsibility for the outcomes of their own work.This qualification provides a pathway to work as a hairdresser in any industry environment, usually a salon.No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

This includes: - Various scissors for the purpose of cutting hair, including thinners and long blade overcomb scissors - Feather haircutting razor and disposable replacement razors - Trimmer, clipper and attachments, balding clippers if completing barber units - Blow dryer and thermal equipment (straightener, conical curler, etcetera) - Sectioning clips, various combs and brush sizes- Professional personal equipment (PPE) - Enclosed footwear - Professional Industry standard dress code applies Optional items that can be purchased for the purpose of training include: - Mannequin heads and hair goods: Male mannequin head (bearded and/or unbearded), female mannequin head, Vertical Hair Strip (VHS) - Uniforms: Black, black and white professional industry attire. Individual sections will suggest options that can be purchased- A personal computer/laptop for use at home with internet access (also available at a local TAFE NSW Campus)

**ADDITIONAL RESOURCES**You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:- A Specialist Equipment and a Hair Resource Kit in order to develop your skills. A detailed Specialist Equipment List will be provided at the orientation session or via email, along with suggested industry suppliers for you to purchase prior to starting class. The cost of your Hair Resources which is required for practical session/s is approximately $550.00. This goes towards the cost of Head blocks and a uniform. The section will outline when these will be needed. Students are also required to wear closed in protective footwear and plain black pants or black skirt below the knee and are required to bring a laptop and an iPad to class.
