Master of Information Technology

The Master of Information Technology is a broad, flexible and technical information technology Masters degree. The program provides graduates with training and experience (according to personal development needs) by developing expertise in desired fields. The Master of Information Technology (MIT) program is designed to cater to both those who currently work in the industry but have no formal qualification and those with tertiary qualifications in another discipline and little information technology background but who wish to gain a qualification that will allow them to pursue an IT career.

Structure

Students complete 160 units comprised of 80 units of core courses and 80 units of directed courses. Students who wish to complete a specialisation will instead complete 80 units of core courses, 40 units of compulsory courses and 40 units of directed courses.

Entry requirements

  • AQF Level 7 entry: Students with a three year Bachelor degree in a non-related field of study to Information Technology are eligible to undertake the 160 unit program, which can be completed in 2 years full time or 4 years part time. Students with a three year Bachelor degree in a non-related field of study to Information Technology, who also hold a minimum of two years of relevant senior level industry experience** , will study between 120 – 160 units. Students will be advised of specific program requirements depending on the content of previous work experience. Students with a three year Bachelor degree in a related field of study* are eligible to undertake a 120 unit program that can be completed in 1.5 years full time or 3 years part time. AQF Level 8 entry: Students with a four year Bachelor Honours degree in a non-related field of study to Information Technology will study between 120 – 160 units. Students will be advised of specific program requirements depending on the content of previous studies. Students with a Graduate Certificate in a non-related field of study to Information Technology will study between 140 – 160 units. Students will be advised of specific program requirements depending on the content of previous studies. Students with a Graduate Diploma in a non-related field of study to Information Technology will study between 120 – 140 units. Students will be advised of specific program requirements depending on the content of previous studies. Students with a Graduate Diploma in a related field of study* are eligible to undertake a 120 unit program, which can be completed in 1.5 years full time or 3 years part time. Students with a four year Bachelor Honours degree in a related field of study* are eligible to undertake the 80 unit program, which can be completed in 1 year full time or 2 years part time.
