Open Foundation
Open Foundation is a free pathway program offered at the University of Newcastle. It is designed for people who do not have the qualifications required for direct entry into an undergraduate degree program. You’ll develop the skills you need, not only to gain entry, but to find success at university and beyond. Providing equitable access and flexibility, Open Foundation will help you achieve your goals.

Structure
Open Foundation requires the completion of 40 units (made up of 10 unit courses).
Entry requirements
- To be eligible for admission, applicants must: be 17 or older at the time of application
- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or a Permanent visa holder (Including a Permanent Australia Humanitarian visa), or Pacific Engagement visa holder
- be residing in Australia for the duration of your studies
- students studying online must be residing in New South Wales at the time of application
- not have successfully completed an enabling program or tertiary studies at either University of Newcastle or any other higher education institution (with the exception of the Elite Athletes Pathway Program). You must comply with the level of English proficiency for the program you are applying for.
