Surveyors specialise in the measurement, management, analysis and display of spatial information describing the Earth and its physical features. Surveyors work on a local and global scale, on projects as diverse as managing cadastral infrastructure, planning of local facilities, providing spatial information support to construction and engineering activities, to the prediction of earthquakes and mapping of the ocean floor. At UON we train surveyors capable of meeting the biggest global challenges. As a surveyor you could work as a geodesist analysing polar motion and measuring the movements of the earth's crust. You might be involved in preparation for the building of a new tunnel or you could work with local government, mapping flood areas and contributing to disaster preparedness. This program develops students' critical technical and surveying/engineering skills in cadastral surveying, geodesy, satellite positioning, photogrammetry, spatial data systems, remote sensing, surveying techniques and computations.
- The Bachelor of Surveying (Honours) is a 4 year program comprising 320 units, of which 280 units are core courses and 40 units are elective pathway courses. An elective pathway gives students the opportunity to broaden their skills and knowledge in their own or another engineering discipline
- or specialise in areas such as business, maths or science
- or undertake study overseas. There is a strong emphasis on practical laboratory and field exercises throughout the program, and students will also have access to modern electronic surveying equipment. Students will have the opportunity to undertake an industry related project in their final year and must also complete 12 weeks of industrial experience throughout the program. A graded honours classification is awarded to students on the basis of superior performance attained throughout the program.

Standard entry requirements
Year 12 or equivalent. Alternative entry pathways may include approved TAFE studies, preparatory programs such as Newstep, Open Foundation or Tertiary Preparation Certificate. Assumed knowledge: HSC Mathematics (Band 5 or above) or equivalent. One science-related subject would also be an advantage (Physics or Chemistry preferred). Applicants who have achieved less than Mathematics Band 5 may be admitted to the program but may need to complete additional study to successfully complete the requirements of the program. Students who have completed HSC Mathematics General 2 may be admitted to the program but can expect to undertake additional studies to successfully complete the requirements of the program.
This degree is accredited by the Board of Surveying and Spatial Information of NSW and meets the requirements of the Reciprocating Board of Surveyors of Australia and New Zealand.
Credit transfer agreements with TAFE NSW and other education providers are under continuous negotiation.
