The Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) enables students to extend their knowledge, practical skills and understanding of evidence-based practice, grow their understanding of professional issues and develop the ability to independently complete research. Students develop advanced clinical skills, combined with knowledge and competencies that are beyond the usual scope of nursing practice. The degree offers the flexibility of online learning, workshops on campus, accessible digital learning facilities and dedicated support staff. The program is not available on a full-time basis and will normally be completed over 3 years part-time.

Standard entry requirements

  • All applicants must: hold current general registration as a registered nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
  • AND hold a postgraduate qualification from a recognised higher education institution in a relevant clinical field.In addition, to be accepted into the program, applicants will be required to provide documentation including: A CV demonstrating a minimum of four years full-time equivalent experience as a Registered Nurse, including two years full-time equivalent as a Registered Nurse in a clinical field and two years full-time equivalent at an advanced practice level in the same clinical field
  • AND Signed support forms and CVs from a suitably qualified Clinical Support Team that will assist applicants in the development and extension of their specialist practice. The Clinical Support Team must be approved by the Program Director
  • AND A completed and signed Employer Support Form as evidence that the applicant¿s employer is willing to facilitate the extended clinical practice components of the program within their workplace or related agencies.The Information for Prospective Students pack includes an application checklist and all required forms.

Recognition

Graduates satisfy the academic requirements for endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. The requirements for endorsement are determined by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. The program has also been accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council and approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

Further information

At the time of application to SATAC, applicants must submit an employer form, support form from each of the proposed members of the Clinical Support Team and a detailed Curriculum Vitae to UniSA. Students must confirm that they meet the "Fitness to Practice in Clinical Placements" requirements necessary to undertake a clinical placement in preparation for entry into nursing and midwifery professions or for specialist or advanced practice qualifications.
