This program has a strong professional focus and includes 500 hours of industry practicum placements. It draws on the strengths of its unique positioning within the Faculty of Medicine and the School of Medical Sciences. The program offers a comprehensive education in the area of health and exercise with a focus on the use of physical activity as preventative and rehabilitative therapy.

Structure

Commencing with the basic sciences, students are introduced to the principles of health and exercise in Year 1 and continue to develop these skills throughout the course. Learning has a practical focus including scenario-based learning and client and patient contact.

Further information

Teaching is primarily delivered by staff of the Faculty of Medicine, and utilises its teaching hospitals and research institutes. Graduates may expect to find employment as Exercise Physiologists in rehabilitation clinics and hospitals working in post-acute rehabilitation, sports medicine clinics, corporate health, specialised fitness centres, government departments establishing policy guidelines regarding physical activity and preventative health, and private practice for rehabilitation/exercise prescription for people requiring specialist guidance (e.g. workplace rehabilitation).
