This degree prepares pre-service teachers to teach children aged birth to eight years in early learning centres and in junior primary classes. The teaching profession and quality teacher training programs in particular have become a universal focus for the sustainability of society. Teaching continues to be a valued and sought after profession in all countries. In accordance with this philosophy, Curtin provides a high quality undergraduate course for beginning early childhood teaching. In addition to carefully selected local practicum placements, this course also provides opportunities for 'country' field experience.
This course includes core studies, professional studies and elective units. Units cater for the different needs of early childhood education pre-service teachers. Pre-service teachers are able to undertake electives to specialise in an area of interest.

Standard entry requirements
Applicants require study in a WACE subject appropriate to teaching area. For teaching methods, MATH3C/D and MATH3A/B are required. STAT elements considered are E,V and Q.
This course is nationally recognised and accredited as an initial teaching qualification.
The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority requires all Early Childhood Education pre-service teachers to pass a literacy and numeracy competency test during their degree. These tests comprise spelling, essay writing and knowledge of mathematics content appropriate to early childhood teachers.
