This course is only available to applicants eligible under the remote and outer regional subquota. All other applicants should refer to the Bachelor of Paramedic Science (SATAC code: 224321).This degree is for applicants seeking a career as a paramedic with an Australian State or Territory ambulance service or a research career in pre-hospital science.The aim of the degree is to ensure all students have the skills, knowledge and attitudes to enable them to manage emergency and non-emergency situations in a manner consistent with best practice as paramedics. This is achieved by the degree having a strong emphasis on clinical skills acquisition and practical education using scenario-based teaching methods.

Structure

Key elements of the program include:Studying online during the semester.Compulsory attendance at practical workshop intensives held at the Flinders University Bedford Park campus during mid-semester breaks (generally one week in April and September) throughout the degree. Noting two weeks attendance will be required in second semester 1st year (September) and all attendance in Adelaide will be at the student’s own cost.Compulsory attendance at practical examinations held at the Flinders University Bedford Park campus at the end of each semester (up to one week in June and November) throughout the degree.Performing clinical placements with SA Ambulance Service regional teams at nominated located locations in regional South Australia. Core locations include the Murray/Mallee, Mid North/Yorke Peninsula, Limestone Coast and Pt Lincoln.

Standard entry requirements

This course can be applied for using Year 12, TAFE qualifications, the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT), the Flinders Foundation Studies Program and Tertiary Transfer. This course is only available to applicants eligible under the remote and outer regional subquota. Applicants must also, within 10 working days after submitting the SATAC application, submit a Statutory Declaration to SATAC which confirms that they have lived in remote or outer regional areas of Australia (Remoteness Classifications RA3 to RA5) for at least two years out of the past six years, or a total of five years since starting primary school in a remote and/or outer regional areas (RA -3 – RA5).
