The Graduate Certificate in Critical Care Nursing equips students with a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical frameworks and practical, evidence-based research skills that are required for nurses to work in critical care environments. It focuses on acquiring advanced knowledge and skills to care for patients with complex medical needs in critical care setting. This degree aims to facilitate development of specialised knowledge, skills and attributes for application in critical care environments.

Structure

Students complete four core (compulsory) topics, including a professional experience placement topic. These topics are aimed at providing students with the opportunity to critically analyse the concepts and theory around recognition, response and management of the acute, complex and/or critically ill deteriorating patient in a critical care setting are applied and students practise evidence-based nursing research skills to plan, implement and evaluate care provision in critical care environments.

Standard entry requirements

  • Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification
  • Hold current Registered Nurse registration, have one year (Full-time equivalent) work experience as a Registered Nurse, within the last five years.Applicants must also have a minimum of seven months work experience in and be currently employed in an intensive care or high dependency unit.Applicants must provide details of their registered nursing work experience in their SATAC application.
