The effective management of health services is of vital importance to the community and health sector alike. In response to the need for improved health management education, the Master of Health Management degree is designed to equip students with the knowledge, competencies and professional attitudes to undertake senior managerial roles and to provide health leadership within the health sector.

  • remaining units from a Major or electives. Students may choose to combine their coursework with a project or dissertation. Students who choose to undertake a dissertation will not have room in their program for a major.


  • The Majors available to internal students are: Emergency and Disaster Management, Quality and Patient Safety, Health Law, Health Policy and Planning. Alternatively, students may choose a cross-specialisation of four units from across the Majors. Students who choose to undertake a dissertation will not have room to complete a 48 credit point Major. The Emergency and Disaster Management major and cross-specialisation are also available to online students.

Standard entry requirements

  • A completed recognised Bachelor Degree (or higher) in any discipline
  • Applicants who have completed a recognised Bachelor Degree in a relevant area such as health, law or business or a completed recognised bachelor degree in any other discipline with at least 3 years (full-time or equivalent) experience working in health management at a middle to senior level will be eligible for 48 credit points of advanced standing which will reduce the course to 3 semesters full-time (1.5 years), and will have the option of undertaking a fully online version of the course.

Study pathways

The Graduate Diploma in Health Management fully articulates into the Master of Health Management. Students who complete 4 units in the Master of Health Management will be able to exit with a graduate certificate. Students who complete a minimum of 8 units including the 6 core units may exit with a graduate diploma.
