This course provides the technical and professional knowledge and capabilities to work as a fashion designer and fashion product developer within the global fashion industry. Student's focus on product development and gain design knowledge relevant to fashion industry needs, including advanced pattern cutting, associated manufacturing techniques, and fashion industry digital design applications. Students gain fashion industry management expertise and research fashion industry opportunities. Students undertake a major project through which they gain advanced knowledge and experience in specialised areas of fashion including evening wear, lingerie, children's wear, menswear and sportswear. The course enables students to expand on methods of researching, designing, pattern cutting and garment realisation to achieve finished fashion concepts relevant to industry needs, as well as an in depth knowledge of how the global fashion system operates and how you can work effectively within it.
This 1-year program provides you with real-world experiences. Your major project will focus on specialised areas of fashion including evening wear, lingerie, children's wear, menswear and sportswear. Advanced pattern technology provides a progressive understanding of pattern design principles. You will develop the ability to produce complex patterns using manual and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) technology, including body scan technology. Computer-aided design and manufacturing technology (fashion and textiles) gives you advanced knowledge of product design and development within the fashion industry. Management courses provide you with an understanding of social, sustainability and international issues related to production management for onshore and offshore environments. You will study: advanced design research, product development, block development, pattern design, garment construction.

Standard entry requirements
You must have successfully completed the Associate Degree in Fashion Design and Technology at RMIT University with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 (out of 4.0), or equivalent program at another institution.
This course is accredited by Manufacturing Skills Australia (MSA).
The pathway agreement between the Bachelor of Design (Fashion) (Honours) and the Bachelor of Applied Science - Fashion Design and Technology is currently under review. Graduates may also undertake the Master of Fashion and Textiles by coursework. This program is a pathway from the Associate Degree in Fashion Design and Technology.
