Elements of Shipboard Safety - 0417ESS

Elements of Shipboard Safety training provides students with the basic skills to work in the marine industry. Topics include survival techniques, abandon ship drills, Occupational Health and Safety in the maritime workplace, and firefighting. Instruction takes the form of classroom learning and extensive practical activities utilising indoor pools and the waterways of the Gippsland Lakes. Training comprises of units from the Maritime Training Package MAR20318 - Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1) and can be used as credit towards future maritime courses such as Coxswain Grade 2, Coxswain Grade 1, Master <24m NC or Engine Driver certificates.

Entry requirements

  • Completed Elements of Shipboard Safety (ESS) within the last 5 years or
  • Have the required seatime experience for an application for an AMSA Coxswain Grade 1 Certificate of Competency
