This program provides students with an opportunity to undertake concurrent study in Civil Engineering and Business and complete two awards. The combined degree program offers greater breadth of learning, enhancing the academic and professional qualities gained in each separate degree. At the same time, it recognises the increasing need for students to graduate with multidisciplinary skills. Students develop skills in the design and building of large scale projects such as roads, bridges, airports, major buildings and water supply systems whilst also gaining skills for work in many areas of business, and the opportunity to progress in a business management career. Civil engineers are responsible for the physical infrastructure that enables modern societies to function. Buildings, highways and railways, tunnels, airports, power generation facilities and harbour facilities are all designed, built and managed by civil engineers. The combined program allows students to compliment their technical skills with business acumen, entrepreneurism and the ability to commercialise engineering innovations. They learn how to manage people and finances, propose new business opportunities and market their product.
The Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) / Bachelor of Business is a 5 year program comprising 410 units, of which 340 units are core courses and 70 units are compulsory or directed courses for the business major. Students will have the opportunity to undertake an industry related project in their final year and must also complete 12 weeks of industrial experience throughout the program. A graded honours classification in engineering is awarded on the basis of superior performance throughout the program. The Bachelor of Business component of this combined program may be awarded with Distinction on the basis of superior performance throughout the program.

Standard entry requirements
Year 12 or equivalent. Alternative entry pathways may include approved TAFE studies, preparatory programs such as Newstep, Open Foundation or Tertiary Preparation Certificate. Assumed knowledge: HSC Mathematics (Band 5 or above) or equivalent. One science-related subject would also be an advantage (Physics or Chemistry preferred). Applicants who have achieved less than Mathematics Band 5 may be admitted to the program but may need to complete additional study to successfully complete the requirements of the program. Students who have completed HSC Mathematics General 2 may be admitted to the program but can expect to undertake additional studies to successfully complete the requirements of the program.
This degree program is accredited by Engineers Australia and other affiliated international organisations.
Credit transfer agreements with TAFE NSW and other education providers are under continuous negotiation. A Bachelor of Business (Honours) is also available to meritorious students, as an additional year of full-time or equivalent part-time study.
